S.E.E.D. Missionary Aid Association was started because someone saw a need. As a student at Midwest Bible College, Earl Lewis was introduced to the need of the foreign fields through a class assignment in Stanley Kauer's Missions class where he was to write a letter to one of the foreign ministers of the Church of God (7th Day).

A few years later, some ladies in Stanberry saw the need to assist a young man from Nigeria who had also attended Midwest Bible College and was then attending North-west Missouri State University. He told of the hardness of his life overseas and so the ladies took it upon themselves to load the young man down with food and clothing as he flew back and forth to his home. Billie Henderson, now the historian of S.E.E.D., recalls the fervency she felt in responding to the needs of the congregations overseas.

In 1978, the Lewis and Henderson forces merged and SEED was officially born.

In 1988, in Joplin, MO., SEED was changed to reflect the acronym, S.E.E.D: Salvation; Equipping; Education; and Discipling.

S.E.E.D. is still responding to specific requests and needs after all these years. Some of the needs are very specific; such as real seed for planting; such as grape juice for the Lord's Supper; such as a pair of shoes for a patient in a nursing home; or clothing and household items for someone whose home is destroyed by fire, wind, or flood. S.E.E.D. answers these needs as we are able.

S.E.E.D. is a faith oriented organization. Funds come in sporadically, but we affirm to you, the contributors and to the recipients that every penny is used for the four-fold purpose as defined by the acronym--S.E.E.D. We still see the need and, God willing, we will continue to meet those needs as God provides the funding. God has blessed this work through the years and we believe He will continue to bless as we remain faithful to His commandments and His commission.

S.E.E.D. continues to receive bundles of mail which state all sorts of needs. Some needs are material, but, more than any one thing requested in our foreign mail, is a universal request for prayer. This is a legitimate reason to continue to be involved with S.E.E.D. We may not be able to meet a specific need, but we believe in the power of God and in His ability to provide what is needed for this life and to provide eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ.
